Texas might be a real battleground in 2020

In the 2020 congressional election race, if MJ Hegar can get donations, she could give U.S. Sen. John Cornyn a run for his money.

Cornyn is finishing his third term in the U.S. Senate.

Travis County GOP's Andy Hogue said Liberals are hoping to bank on the president's unpopular points, and attack Republicans mercilessly no matter how much they agree or disagree with the party.

"They have proven their ability to generate enthusiasm. They're an organized well-oiled machine that we should not take lightly. But, they still represent the same tired old liberal values that Texans have rejected time and time again," says Hogue.

He said it's unknown if Hollywood liberals are going to bankroll like-minded liberals like Hegar. If she wants to do better against Cornyn than she did against Carter, she needs to change her messaging or economic philosophy.

Hogue said Cornyn is just as vulnerable as Ted Cruz was with Beto O'Rourke.

"He's seen what it's going to be like campaigning during the Trump administration. He's learned from Ted Cruz's campaign the weaker points," says Hogue.

Polls find Cornyn with less support than Ted Cruz.

Other polls find anti-Cornyn group is smaller than the anti-Cruz crowd.
