Officials announce arrests in animal cruelty sweep

Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials today went public with the results of an animal cruelty sweep they have been conducting for the last few days. Lt. Mauro Alvarado says there were 145 warrants his office had to go through.

“Out of those warrants we arrested 21 animal abusers,” he said.

Alvarado is glad to have those abusers off the streets.

“Through my experience we know that people who abuse animals do the same to people. Getting them off the streets makes us all safer,” Alvarado explained.

Most of the chargers for animal cruelty were misdemeanors for animal abandonment.
