Cougars featured on ESPN's ‘College GameDay’

For the first time in University of Houston basketball history, ESPN’s College GameDay will broadcast live from the Fertitta Center. That will happen tomorrow morning, before the Coogs take on Central Florida tomorrow afternoon.

The show’s cast of characters, including Jay Bilas and Reece Davis will be on hand. Another of the show’s hosts, former coach Seth Greenberg, tells KTRH the fact that the show is coming to campus is a tremendous honor for the school.

“There’s only eight of these shows. To be selected is a great reflection of what Kelvin has been able to do,” Greenberg said.

And what Sampson has been able to do since taking over the program has been nothing short of tremendous. There have been a couple of appearances in the NIT. The Coogs returned to the NCAA Tournament. Now they are ranked in the Top Ten in both of the major polls with a 27-1 record.

“It’s a great reflection on what Kelvin has been able to do,” Greenberg explained. “This team reminds me of his Oklahoma team that went to the Final Four. He knows exactly who he is and how he wins.”

The game against Central Florida tips off at 3pm tomorrow. The show on ESPN airs tomorrow at 10am. Doors at the Fertitta Center open for students at 8:30am and at 9am for non-students. Admission is free.

“We take the show to teams that are having special teams. There’s a reason we go to Duke, Carolina and Michigan State. The games are special events at all of those places,” Greenberg said.
