OBITUARY: President George Herbert Walker Bush Has Died

(Undated)  --  President George Herbert Walker Bush is dead.  He was the country's 41st President and father of President George W. Bush.  The elder Bush will be remembered for his dedication to traditional American values and public service.  Bush entered politics in 1966 with a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after building a successful oil business in Texas.  From there, he was appointed to a series of high-level positions including United Nations Ambassador, Republican National Committee Chairman and CIA Director.

Bush died at 10:10 Central time on Friday night. according to a statement by his spokesman.  He was 94.

Bush served as Vice President under Ronald Reagan for two terms and was elected as the country's President in 1988.  While Bush was in office, the Cold War ended after 40 years and the Berlin Wall came down.  Bush led the UN coalition in the first Gulf War between 1990 and 1991 when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. Bush helped force the Iraqi withdrawal from Kuwait.

Bush was born June 12th, 1924 to Republican Senator Prescott Bush and Dorothy Walker in Massachusetts.  He graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover and joined the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday.  Bush is said to be the youngest pilot in the Navy to receive his wings.  While flying combat missions in World War Two, he was shot down twice.

After leaving the war, Bush attended Yale University and graduated in 1948 with an economics degree.  While in college, he married Barbara Pierce and had his first child, George Walker Bush.  They had five other children, including Robin who died as a child, Jeb, Neil, Marvin, and Dorothy.  President Bush lived in Texas for his remaining years and was involved in charitable organizations including M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston.
