Social media turning into high school-like cliques

It’s a good bet you have gone on to your Facebook or Twitter and have seen a friend say they need a break from social media. But it’s also a good bet those friends are the exception and not the rule.

Social media has become the high school we can't log off from. And by high school, we are talking about the behavior. The tone of what's being talked about online keeps getting worse, and Kami Huyse at Zoetica Media tells KTRH it's shoot first and ask questions later on social media.

“It is a fast platform. You have to react quickly. Most people aren’t great at regulating themselves when they are put on the spot like that,” Huyse said.

A British scientist warns that social media is negatively affecting the emotional and mental maturity. So if you think it's going to get better soon, think again.

“I hate to say it, but it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better. That’s just the way these things work,” she stated.
