9-1-1 will be able to locate iPhone users in emergencies

Usually, we're concerned when our smart phones intrude on our privacy or used for marketing. But, now it's being used for good.

This fall, Apple's new IOS 12 upgrade will be able to send first responders to you in an emergency.

“It’s taking your cell phone location, based upon cell towers, it’s taking any WiFi location that you might be connected to and then it’s taking your GPS signal,” said Cybersecurity lawyer Shawn Tuma.

He said those are all combined and sent to a 9-1-1 operator.

“We will see people’s lives get saved because of this technology,” said Tuma.

Andriod started this six months ago.

The technology is available through RapidSOS using Hybridized Emergency Location (HELO).<PSI_END_OBJECT>

Tuma said we might be giving up some privacy, but are gaining some convenience.
