Yes Houston, you have curling

The Olympics continue in South Korea, and some Houstonians are intrigued by a game that is played on ice.

No, it’s not hockey. It’s curling. We watch, but we don’t understand. We joke, but there are a lot of people who take it seriously.

And they are right here in Houston.

The Curling Club of Houston at the Bellrive Ice Center is offering lessons to anyone interested. In fact, you can get your curl on tonight if you wanted to. David Franklin, a member of the club, tells you what you might expect.

“Get you brushed up to the game and we’ll give you steps toward throwing the stone,” Franklin said.

The sport has even captured the attention of Texans superstar JJ Watt, who has been Tweeting about it. Franklin says they want JJ to come down and hang out with the rest of the club.

“We are trying to get him to come down and hang with the crew. We are still working on that part,” Franklin explained, adding that Watt is the first Houston star athlete to even talk about curling like this.

The Curling Club of Houston has about 40 members.
