JJ Watt Fund Surpasses $30-Million

There have been countless stories of neighbor helping neighbor in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey’s devastation, but few have garnered as much attention as the efforts of Houston Texans superstar JJ Watt.

It started with a cell phone video to collect $200,000.  The video went viral and contributions have been pouring in ever since.  Each time it hits a new landmark, Watt raises the bar.

The relief effort has raised more than $30-million.  According to the YouCaring page, more than 197,000 people have made contributions.

HEB CEO Charles Butt made the largest donation of personal funds… five-million dollars.  Watt is a spokesman for the Texas grocery store chain, notably during the football season.

The Texans open the regular season tomorrow at NRG Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  It will be the largest gathering of Houstonians since the storm hit.

The fund will close at 5:00pm on Friday, September 15.
