Sewage Issues Further Delay Cy-Fair ISD Reopening

Sewage issues revealed Saturday at several campuses of the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD will further delay the opening of the entire districts's schools.

"Facing these challenges, the school start date has been delayed to Monday, Sept. 11. All staff will report on Thursday, Sept. 7, to prepare for the revised start date," the Cy-Fair ISD announced.

The decision was based on new information from the municipal utility districts (MUDs) that serve the campuses.

It was not disclosed which schools have sewage problems, only that "several campuses" have them.

The Cy-Fair ISD had first announced that schools would open Wednesday, Sept. 6, but sewage matters forced tghe change to Sept. 11.

Because of this delay, the district said is extending the free feeding sites at Holbrook and Owens elementary schools and Cypress Lakes High School through Sunday, Sept. 10. The feeding times are  8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The USDA has waived all free and reduced meal eligibility requirements through Sept. 30.

Children 18 and younger and accompanying adults can eat for free from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. today and Monday at Owens Elementary, located at 7939 Jackrabbit Road; Holbrook Elementary, 6402 Langfield Road; and Cypress Lakes High, 5750 Greenhouse Road. It's a "special extension" the district's summer feeding program because of Harvey.
