Rescue and recovery efforts continue following the destruction caused by Harvey. As of 12pm:
- Houston mayor Sylvester Turner has issued a voluntary evacuation for those residents West of Gessner, but only if you have water in your home. That is connected with water coming from the Addicks Reservoir
- An immediate mandatory evacuation has been issued by the City of Lake Jackson for all residents in the Jackson Oaks and Harvard Oaks Subdivisions in northwest Lake Jackson.
- Fort Bend County reduces the mandatory evacuation area zone to those within the 100 foot contour
- Arkema officials say the chemicals that have not yet been ignited at the plant at Crosby will ignite at some point in the future.
- Residents should not return to their homes
- The city of Beaumont still has no water supply.
- Southwest Airlines has canceled all flights in to and out of Hobby Airport until tomorrow at Noon.
- The Houston Zoo is open again, but some operations are limited.
- HISD, Fort Bend ISD and Dickinson ISD are among those that have decided to push the start of the school year back to Monday, September 11th.
- Harvey is impacting gas prices. The average price for a gallon of regular in Houston this morning is $2.25; the state average is $2.35.
- President Donald Trump will be in Houston tomorrow. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will also visit Lake Charles, LA.
- The President is also donating $1M of his own personal money for relief efforts
- President Trump declares Sunday a ‘Day of Prayer for Harvey victims.
- The death toll from Harvey is now reported to be more than 40.
- The Astros return home to face the Mets at Minute Maid Park tomorrow night. The Astros also pulled off a blockbuster trade overnight, sending three prospects to the Detroit Tigers for star pitcher Justin Verlander.
