Where some supporters of President Donald Trump see incompetence in the ongoing efforts of Trump’s detractors to tie him to collusion with supposed Russian efforts to interfere with the 2016 election, political commentator Rush Limbaugh says it’s something much worse.
Limbaugh says it’s actually a conspiracy at work. “You have to have a lot of pieces in place,” he says, “to be able to carry out a story for which there’s no evidence for over a year.”
Some of those pieces, Limbaugh claims, are anti-Trump personnel in the CIA, the NSA, and the FBI. “Those are the people that can surveil and wiretap,” he points out. “And there’s nothing. There’s not a scintilla. There’s not a whiff. There’s no evidence whatsoever. And yet there’s no end in sight to this.”
Limbaugh states what he believes is the goal of the conspiracy. “We are watching a silent coup here to oust a duly elected president,” he says. “This coup is being mounted by career government people who can traffic anonymously, and who are protected by people in the media and within the Democrat Party.”
The Washington Post, Limbaugh points out, has admitted to relying on more than 30 anonymous sources in their anti-Trump stories about the supposed collusion. “How many anonymous people talked to the New York Times?” he wonders. “How many sources are talking to both places?”
Limbaugh says that since no evidence has been found, there’s “nothing to suggest the need for a special counsel.” He says Trump’s enemies are trying to make a scandal out of Trump’s firing of former FBI head James Comey, which, he says, the president was completely within his rights to do.
