Tourists are Heading to Colorado

Curiosity alone will lead some spring breakers to travel to Colorado. Recreational marijuana is legal there, and in Washington state.

So-called "pot tourism" is a benefit for the first two states to legalized the drug for private use.

“They've got that advantage there and that's a medium-term advantage,” says Sam Houston State University professor Nathan Jones. “The question is, once other states legalize it, will there be an incentive to continue going to Colorado?”

Jones is a marijuana policy expert. He says it's not guaranteed that other states will jump on the bandwagon -- there is still strong moral opposition to pot.

“Since the 1970s we've had what's known as the war on drugs,” he says, “so, there is a pushback.”
