If the Texas House of Representatives follows the lead of the Senate and approves the change, vehicles would no longer have to have an inspection sticker on the windshield.

The change would go into effect September 1st.

“Individuals would go and get their vehicle inspected and then they will go and register their vehicle,” says Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Director of Governmental Relations Jeremiah Kuntz.  “A sticker will be issued to them and that will be the only sticker on the vehicle.”

Kuntz says the change for DMV workers would be procedural only and staffing wouldn’t be affected.  State officials say there would be an expense for the original changeover, but the state would save money in the long run.

Kuntz says 35 states already have a single-sticker system, although some don’t even require an inspection.
