One of the biggest conventions of the year starts its four-day run in Houston today.

More than 100-thousand officials working in offshore technology from all over the world will fill the Reliant Center.  Ed Stokes is chairman of the Offshore Technology Conference Board of Directors.  He says representatives from up to 140 countries will attend.

"It's not just about the oil and gas business," Stokes says.  "We have some sessions on wind energy or solar energy.  It's an energy conference."

Despite the tremendous growth in areas like Eagle Ford Shale, offshore production is still huge.

"We're producing something around 90 million barrels of oil a day," he says, "plus 350 billion standard cubic feet of gas -- and the forecast is for it to grow."
