Memorial Day Ceremonies Set for Monday
Posted May 26th, 2014 @ 7:00am by KTRH’s Dale Forbis

A few Memorial Day ceremonies are planned around our area. Thousands are expected to attend today's events honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Organizers suggest arriving early. Here is a complete list of ceremonies in and around Houston today.

VA NATIONAL CEMETERY

A crowd of three-thousand or more is expected to attend next Monday's Memorial Day ceremony at the Houston VA National Cemetery.  Matt Williams is director of the second-largest national cemetery in the U.S.  He says the ceremony is emotional for many people.

“It makes you feel proud, but also you're somber,” Williams says.  “You're remembering why we have the freedoms we have, the people that sacrificed for us to have those freedoms.”

Activities start at 9:30 a.m.  Williams suggests you get therer early at the 419-acre site in northwest Houston.

“The earlier they arrive, the better,” he says.  “We usually have a large crowd over three-thousand people.  There is parking within the cemetery, but the sooner you get here, the better.”

Sugar Land's 6th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony is set for May 26 beginning at 10 a.m. There will be many attractions including a presentation of colors, pledge of allegiance, the singing of the National Anthem, and many more.
