Houston Police Start 'March on Crime'

For 30 years Houston police have designated March as a month for special emphasis on certain types of crime.  Police Chief Charles McClelland Junior says four types of law-breaking will get extra attention during the annual “March on Crime.”

McClelland lists the crime targeted:  “Human trafficking, robberies, pedestrian-bicycle fatalities and burglary of motor vehicles.”

McClelland says many people become victims when they simply fail to use common sense.

“Sometimes people just don't think,” he says.  “They say, well, I just ran inside the store for just a minute.  Now, their window is broken and their property is gone.”

McClelland says his officers fight crime 365 days a year, but for the next month, these four areas will get special attention.
