Hot Cars Still Killing Kids

It doesn't take long for a heated car to kill a child who was left behind.  Houston police offer a series of suggestions to help avoid a tragedy like that.  Senior officer Barry Curtis says a parent should leave a purse or a briefcase in the seat next to the child, so they won't forget.

“Take off your left shoe and put it back there, because as soon as you stepped out you'd see you wouldn't have your shoe,” Curtis says.  “Then you'd have to retrieve your shoe and, of course, your child as well.”

Shoppers in Katy broke out a car window to save a boy and girl.  Officer Curtis says don't worry about criminal complaints if you do that.  You would be protected by Good Samaritan laws.

“(They) will supercede,” he says, “when the life of a child is at stake.”
