Former Enron CEO Gets Sentence Reduced

A judge has reduced the sentence for Jeffrey Skilling.

Skilling was originally sentenced to 24 years in prison for his role in the fall of energy giant Enron.  But, now Skilling will only face seven more years in prison as a judge has reduced his sentence to 14 years.  The reduction is part of an exchange for Skilling to drop his lawsuit that challenges his order to pay restitution.

Skilling has been in jail since 2006 and will now have to pay $41 million in restitution to the victims of the downfall.  Some of those victims spoke today in the resentencing hearing.

With his sentence set to expire in 2020, it is possible Skilling will be eligible for parole much sooner than that.
