Could ‘Occupy’ Movement Make Comeback?

You might remember the ‘Occupy’ movement from a few years ago. It made a lot of headlines in 2001, but it ultimately faded away. However, the American economy could wind up allowing it to make a comeback.

We've seen economic protests recently in countries like England. And the U.S. economy contracted by almost 3% in the first quarter of 2014. That has led economists like Martin Armstrong to believe we could see protests fire up here. Lone Star College economics professor Hank Lewis says Armstrong isn't just blowing smoke.

“We could see some kind of protests,” Lewis said. “Armstrong isn’t out of touch. Is it time to panic? No. But are there issues that could lead to problems? Yes.”

And if you think we won't see any protests here in Houston, Lewis says you might want to think again.

“You’d probably see it in Dallas, Seattle, New York and even in Houston. You could see some big protests,” Lewis stated.

How big will they be?

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they were pretty large,” Lewis explained. But will we see SWAT teams and water cannons? I’m not so sure.”

This isn't something that's going to happen today, but Lewis says if we continue down the economic path that we are on, he wouldn’t be surprised to see protests fire up within a couple of years.
